DS Paintings
Here are some Paintings I did on my nintendo DS in the new and old versions of colors...
A forest stream nearby where I am staying.
A plant in a window of the cafe I had brakfast in yesterday
Another part of that same forest walk
A DS painting I did from memory of the lake... the oil is further down in a previous post.
and finally, a study from a photo I took in the galapagos.

Some studies
I have been painting like a nutter at work, so here are some of my morning warmups to get into the good-painting-zone. I have found these studies really reduce the amount of 'erase, start again' that always happen when you try paint without being in the right mindset.
This is a study of a Zhaoming Wu Painting... so inspiring!

A quick still life... honing those painting skillz. I am amazed by how much you can learn by trying to paint a tissue.
And whilst showin a workmate some painting techniques... and being asked to put eyes on it, this happened....

Value Keys
I have been trying to get my head around High/mid/low key value ranges and how a photo/reference can be interpreted and simplified into one of these three ranges... its so powerful as without them its hard to contrll all the incredible range of values in a landscape. Too many values can be messy if they dont live in the right heirarchy and this really helps set that up at the start of a painting!

BW Landscape
I have been wanting to get textures into my painting for a very long time, but I always ended up just painting with a simple brush. That has allowed me to get better at just painting, but now, after being very much inspired by this guy: http://maciejkuciara.blogspot.com/I am starting to get back into textures... I even re-made a large portion of my brushes.
Anyway, here is my first BW painting using this more textural approach... I feel like its a bit of a turning point/breakthrough towards where I want to be.

Phillipe Faraut Study
This is a study from a web image of a Phillipe Faraut Sculpture. Its not as good practice as a cast study its true, as I am not measuring proportions in 3 dimensions, but its alright for a work practice.... still feel like I learned a lot from it. I will aim to get proportions better in the forst drawing next time... its amazing how far out you can be and not notice. Neck is still out, but im sick of it now :P
